WELCA is hosting a brunch in the CLC on 13 June from 9-11am for all ladies of the church to meet one another, hear what each group is doing, and learn how we can support each other. Please join us, whether you are currently in a women’s circle or interested in learning more about what we have to offer. There is a place for everyone.

Today we celebrate Flag Day. On 14 June 1777, the Second Continental Congress took a break from writing the Articles of Confederation and passed a resolution stating that “the flag of the United States be 13 stripes, alternate red and white,” and that “the union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.” In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson officially established 14 June as Flag Day. Our faith formation began 7 June and runs four consecutive Sundays (7, 14, 21 and 28 June) from 8:15am till 9:15am. The theme will be prayer, with weekly topics to be — Week 1: Structure, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Collects; Week 2: The Jesus Prayer; Week 3: The Prayer Offices; Week 4: Intercessory Prayer. Please attend, even if you have missed previous sessions.

Juneteenth is short for “June Nineteenth”, which celebrates the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas, the last remaining slave state. Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. The troops’ arrival came a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the U.S. On 17 June 2021, it officially became a federal holiday. Click on this event to learn more.

Today is Backpack Food Sunday. It is held the 3rd Sunday of each month and provides weekend meals for needy children at Edwins Elementary School.  Bring individually-packed nutritious food items to the lobby of the Christian Life Center.  A specific shopping list is available at the church, and monetary donations are also welcome so food items can be purchased. The quilters group meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at 9am in the Upper Building. Mary/Martha meets for fun and fellowship as we create beautiful quilts that are donated to benefit Lutheran World Relief and other charitable organizations. No prior quilting experience is needed! Mary Martha also made numerous face masks for the congregation to use during our worship services.

Eve Circle meets tonight and the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30pm. Everyone is welcome! Eve Circle is intended for all ages and specifically designed for the working woman. We are a gathering of women of faith who gain spiritual and emotional strength through fellowship, Bible study, and community service. Past study topics include “Bad Girls of the Bible.” Come join us!

We are offering a free safety class on 27 June from 9am till noon for everyone who is interested. The class includes first aid, hands on CPR and Stop-the-Bleed training. If you are volunteering for VBS, you are highly encouraged to attend.
