Third Sunday of Advent

Today, this 3rd Sunday of Advent, is known as Gaudete Sunday, meaning “rejoice” in Latin. Advent is a time of preparation and anticipation for the coming of Christ both in the past in His incarnation as the baby Jesus, but also in the future with His promised second coming as Christ Triumphant. Sweatshirt Collection

Share the warmth by donating new or gently used sweatshirts supporting One Hopeful Place to be provided to the homeless population of Fort Walton Beach. The collection will run from 30 Nov - 21 Dec. Sweatshirts can be placed in the wooden donation box in the lobby of the CLC. Contact Paul E. if you have any questions. Help us keep those in need warm this year.

The Giving Tree

The Giving Tree will be in the lobby of the CLC from 30 Nov - 14 December. Congregation members can purchase gifts of clothing, personal care items, toys, games, or gift cards for needy children, women, and families in our local community. The Giving Tree contains ornaments with specific items listed on the back. Place both the ornaments and donations under the tree. Please do not wrap your gifts. Click on this event to learn more.

Personal Care Kit Collection

We are again collecting Lutheran World Relief (LWR) personal care Kits. For numerous years the Women's Organization has asked the congregation to support them in donating items for the LWR kits, and the response has been amazing. Mid-Week Advent Meal

Prior to our mid-week Advent service tonight, we have an Advent meal of soup and bread at 5:30pm that will be served in the Christian Life Center. There is a signup sheet in the CLC if you want to bring bread or a pot of your favorite soup to share. Immediately following our meal, we have our final of three mid-week Advent services. Come break bread and enjoy soup with us.

The HTLC Church Council meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:00pm to discuss finances, committee activities, upcoming events, and other church business. All congregation members and visitors are invited to attend. If you are interested in being a board member or team lead, please ask a pastor or one of our current board members. Nominees are accepted in the Fall for a variety of alternating 2-year positions.

Mary Martha Quilters

The quilters group meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at 9am in the Upper Building. Mary/Martha meets for fun and fellowship as we create beautiful quilts that are donated to benefit Lutheran World Relief and other charitable organizations. No prior quilting experience is needed! Mary Martha also made numerous face masks for the congregation to use during our worship services.

Today we celebrate Christmas Eve, which has been celebrated for as long as celebrations for Christmas have happened, starting about 1,700 years ago when the first Christian Roman Emperor, Constantine, declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on 25 December. For centuries after his proclamation, Christmas was celebrated as a whole season that begun with the arrival of Christmas Eve on December 24th.
