Father's Day

Father’s Day is celebrated worldwide to recognize the contributions that fathers and father figures make to the lives of their children.  The date when Father’s Day is celebrated varies from country to country, but in the United States, Canada, and the U.K., it is celebrated on the third Sunday of June.  The idea of a special day to honor fathers and celebrate fatherhood was introduced from the United States, Sonora Smart Dodd was inspired by the American Mother's Day celebrations to plan a day to honor fathers.  In America, it has been celebrated since 1910, and in 1972, President Richard Nixon made Father's Day a national observance.
